Barrel too slick and left crimp in hair

"My old T3 tapered curling wand finally bit the bullet and decided to replaced it with their updated model. I was expecting it to be similar but there is no grip on the barrel making your hair slip right off. This makes it extremely difficult for getting to the base of your hair. Also I'm not sure if it is user error but after each curl my hair had a crimp to it? I never had this problem with the previous one I had and unfortunately will be returning."
